Thermal imaging in action: counting hares in Scotland

February 5, 2018

Thermal imaging has been used by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) to count hare in the Scottish hills.

Scottish mountain hares are difficult to spot so a number of methods have been employed to perform the task. The scientists used a capture and recapture and direct counts methods with the use of thermal imaging technology.

“Gathering accurate information is important so their numbers can be effectively monitored and managed.” says SNH. You can read more on the project on the SNH website here and in a BBC article here.
