ThermaScope SLK
High Temperature Radiometric Kiln and Cooler Camera
ThermaScope SLK
ThermaScope SLK is a high performance radiometric temperature imaging system. It displays bright clear video images within high temperature processes and measures the temperatures at every point in the ThermaScope field of view. The ThermaScope processor software gives the process engineer or operator advanced analysis tools with control interface signals for advanced closed loop control.
High temperature kiln, furnace or oven operating conditions are continuously monitored by the ThermaScope SLK. Abnormal conditions such as over or under temperature, poor temperature distribution or irregular flame shape is instantly shown. These can be alarmed and interpreted by the Operator or Process Engineer with user-friendly analysis tools and temperature displays.
ThermaScope HTV is a low cost non-radiometric high temperature video camera.
ThermaScope Windows based software provides a familiar and easily used interface for operators, under the Windows ’98, NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or XP. Features included in the software are:
-
Live, instantaneous video images
-
Temperature data from the entire ThermaScope camera Field of View inside the process kiln, oven or furnace updated continuously

High Temperature Video Camera with Radiometric Image temperature monitoring
ThermaScope SLK is designed specifically for the harsh environments found in combustion temperature thermal process kilns, ovens and furnaces with temperatures from 6 -700 °C to over 2000 °C. Clear live video images of the process are displayed on control room PC monitors. Every pixel in the camera field of view is measured for exact temperature evaluation. The temperature at points or within areas of interest are measured and can be continuously displayed and recorded. Alarm points for areas of interest can be defined and analogue control outputs can be programmed for interface with process control algorithms. Smooth, efficient operation of complex thermal processes can only be achieved with continuous accurate monitoring of the thermal process variables such as temperature.
Pneumatic insertion/retraction
The ThermaScope SLK has 4 principle camera components: a focal plane array imager and temperature sensor, a water cooled stainless steel protective camera housing, an automatic camera retract mechanism and the camera interface control box with camera protection controls and signal processing circuitry.
Focal Plane Array (FPA) imager and temperature sensor
The ThermaScope SLK sensor captures and transmits clear video images of high temperature processes. Since high temperature thermal process images are often difficult to captured using standard video cameras sensitive only to visible light wavelengths, the SLK sensor has been selected for its sensitivity to a wider range of wavelengths including the predominant infrared wavelengths typical of high temperature processes. Also, each pixel of the FPA sensor is calibrated so that they can all be monitored by the ThermaScope signal processing electronics and software to accurately read temperatures for control room display and signalling.
Solid state long term reliability
The ThermaScope SLK camera sensor is mounted in a protective housing designed for maximum protection. The heavy gauge, stainless steel body is resistant to chemical and abrasive attack. The double walled liquid cooled enclosure gives reliable efficient thermal protection to withstand severe utility failures. Internal temperature sensors continuously send camera housing operating condition information to the ThermaScope control panel to warn if any process or cooling system upsets cause heating problems within the ThermaScope housing. A low cost replaceable front shield is designed as extra protection at the process instrument interface. A low volume purge air fitting supplies plant air to the ThermaScope to keep the front sapphire window clear of process contaminants and assures a sharp video image and accurate temperature measurement.
ThermaScope SLK mount with automatic camera retract mechanism
The compact mounting rails make it easy to install the ThermaScope SLK to look through an opening in the process refractory wall. Should the plant air or cooling water systems fail, flow and temperature sensors, control logic and retract actuators quickly remove the ThermaScope SLK from the harsh high temperature environment to prevent damage.
ThermaScope SLK camera interface and control box
The camera interface and control box houses the FPA sensor signal processing electronics and retract control logic. The video image from the FPA sensor is optimised at the ThermaScope control box. Electronic image enhancement algorithms are used to give the optimal video image at the control room monitor. Temperature sensor data is also processed in the control box and then sent to the control room processor for display, alarming and control circuit output. The control box also monitors camera housing temperature sensors and flow rates to monitor the ThermaScope air and cooling water support utilities. When any support system problems are sensed, the ThermaScope control logic initiates camera retraction to protect the sensor and housing.
